WORKSHOP 1:
FOUNDATIONS OF ARCHITECTURAL COLOUR DESIGN

COURSE CONTENT

Rethinking Colour As Material

Architects tend to think of colour as something additional or ‘on top of’ architecture rather than an intrinsic property of all materials. In this module you will begin to understand the important difference between seeing colour as ‘material’; as a property of material, or as a coating with material properties. Learn what to look for in a colour - ambiguity, complexity and depth.

Colour ‘Appropriate to Architecture’

It’s common for both designers and their clients to feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of choice and number of colours that are available. The good news? You can save valuable time and energy by focussing your attention on colours that really work for architecture.

Three Colour Strategies Every Architect Needs

Develop a greater awareness of the architectural colour strategies you are already using, and discover new strategies that align with your practice philosophy.

Colour Conversations with Clients

Find the language and techniques you need for communicating colour concepts to your clients. Learn Lymesmith’s method for creating a compelling colour story your clients will love.

Colour Theory For Architects (on request)

A working knowledge of the colour wheel and concepts of warm/cool colours and their spatial qualities is assumed knowledge for this course. A brief refresher session on colour theory can be included on request.
