WORKSHOP 2:
PLACED-BASED COLOUR DESIGN IN THEORY + PRACTICE

COURSE CONTENT

Place Based Colour Design - Theory

A thorough introduction to Lymesmith’s philosophy of ‘place-based’ colour design, taught through detailed case studies and precedents. Place based colour design begins with site analysis - my method will be familiar to spatial designers and will naturally become a standard aspect of your design process. Interpretations of site as it pertains to colour will be explored through group discussion.

Place Based Colour Design - Practice

Using a location in the vicinity of the workshop, participants will play with creating colour palettes in response to a site and a project brief. Each participant will apply and investigate their colour palette to perspective drawings, experimenting with spatial manipulation and framing views. The workshop is hands on and very engaging, using trace, coloured pencils, and coloured samples.

You will learn how I work with site and context to develop uniquely resonant colour palettes for every project.

Colour Theory For Architects (on request)

A working knowledge of the colour wheel and concepts of warm/cool colours and their spatial qualities is assumed knowledge for this course. A refresher session on colour theory can be included on request.
