st josephs PRESCHOOL PLAYGROUND SOUND WALL
A simple painted folly for an acoustic fence around a pre-school playground in Rosebery. Constructed from grey fibre cement sheeting, this fence would have detracted from the lovely, light playful architecture of the St Josephs Early Learning Centre by Neeson, Murcutt and Neille Architects. Picking up on the tent like roof forms and colours in the building, Lymesmith proposed a dancing fence line, with a zigzag top to create a playful optical illusion and a more ambiguous (less brutal) ‘cut’ through the landscape of mature trees.
The painted design is more subtle on the inside, and will eventually just peep out above the native garden framing the play area.
